An urgent criminal trial has been ordered for a foreign national on suspicion of spying.
The trial was ordered by UAE Attorney General Dr Hamad Al Shamsi, it was revealed by the Federal Supreme Court on Thursday.
An Emirati reported the alleged spy to prosecutors, telling them he noticed the man acting suspiciously and asking for sensitive information.
An investigation carried out by Public Prosecution revealed that the man had been attempting to procure confidential information about the UAE to potentially pass on to a foreign agency.
The man was arrested and, during questioning, allegedly admitted to spying and revealed who he was working for.
