DUBAI // A tourist who forged a passport to fraudulently acquire a credit card was today sentenced to a year in jail.

However, the Dubai Criminal Court cleared the 33-year-old Briton AA of using the card to buy two Rolex watches worth a total of Dh137,150 and jewellery worth Dh40,250.

The court also cleared his compatriot MA of any involvement in the crime.

AA was arrested after entering a shop on February 6 and trying to sell items of jewellery that he said were given to him by a friend.

The shop's salesman suspected the items had been obtained illegally and reported him to police. They arrested AA at the shop and discovered the forged passport and credit card.
