Three men on trial for stealing safe from Abu Dhabi school
ABU DHABI // A trio of masked burglars broke into a school and stole a safe, the Criminal Court has heard.
The court viewed footage captured on surveillance cameras that showed three men, wearing face masks, searching the school with torches.
A camera also captured the number plate of a car that was waiting outside the school to collect the robbers, the prosecutor said.
Police managed to trace the car and arrest its driver, who then led them to the other defendants.
Inside the vehicle they found cash, as well as a blue bag containing metal tools, sports clothes and trousers. No information was given on what was inside the safe.
The prosecutor said there were two more videos that showed the car driving away after the robbery, adding that prosecution witnesses had provided enough evidence to convict the defendants.
A fourth defendant told the court he had nothing to do with the robbery and was accused only because he knew the other men socially.
He asked the court to examine contents of his calls and text messages to confirm his claims.
The case was adjourned until May 28 for defence lawyers to prepare their case.
