DUBAI // A security guard will spend a month in prison for stealing construction materials, a court ruled this morning.

AG, 19, from Pakistan, had presented a waiver from his company to the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance this month. Prosecutors say he stole rebar worth Dh2,000 on May 13.

He sold the stolen items to KA, 35, and AK, 39, both Pakistani workers, for Dh330. KA will spend three months, followed by deportation, while AK will spend a month in prison. Both men knew the goods were stolen, prosecutors say.

AM, a police officer, told prosecutors that while patrolling Al Qusais he spotted a pickup truck carrying the bars. When he questioned KA and AK, they told him they bought the materials from a man for below their market price.

AK led AM him to the construction site, where AG was arrested, AM said.
