The man who ordered the murder of Suzanne Tamim was sentenced to 15 years in prison by an Egyptian court today, while the former security guard found guilty of killing the Lebanese pop singer was handed a life sentence.

Hesham Talaat Moustafa, 50, an Egyptian property magnate and member of the ruling party, was found guilty of inciting, assisting and paying Mohsen el Sokari to murder Tamim, Moustafa’s estranged lover, in her Jumeirah Beach Residence flat in Dubai in July 2008.

El Sokari, 41, a former state security officer, was sentenced to life in prison for killing Tamim. He was also given a three-year sentence for being in possession of a loaded weapon.

Moustafa and el Sokari were arrested in August 2008 and sentenced to death after a nine-month trial. Both men appealed against the sentence and were granted a re-trial that began in April this year.

The defendants have one last chance to appeal.
