DUBAI// A truck driver denied sexually assaulting a labourer, telling the court this morning that he was merely joking during the alleged assault.

The 24-year-old Pakistani truck driver EK is charged in the Criminal Court of First Instance with sexually assaulting MR, 20, a Bagladeshi worker, on June 1.

Prosecutors said that while MR was working at a construction site near Dubai International Airport, EK grabbed him from behind and touched his buttocks. He then pushed his body, while sexually stimulated towards MR, prosecutors said, adding that he also kissed MR on the cheeks after holding him tight from behind.

Prosecutors said EK confessed to the charges during investigations.

EK denied the charges before Judge Al Saeed Al Bargouth and said he was making fun of MR and did so in front of work colleagues.

The court will issue its verdict on August 16.
