DUBAI // A woman was killed this morning when a driver ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle, which hit her on the pavement, officials say.
The accident occurred at the Abu Hail intersection in Deira, according to Chief Dubai Traffic Prosecutor Salah Bu Faroosha.

"Initial investigations revealed that a 26-year-old Filipino man crossed a red light at the intersection and crashed into another car driven by a 43-year-old Emirati woman," Mr Bu Faroosha said. "The impact of the collision led to the second car, driven by the Emirati woman, to divert onto the pavement and hit the female pedestrian."
The victim, a 45-year-old Pakistani woman, suffered serious injuries and died at the hospital. The Filipino driver suffered no injuries while the Emirati woman suffered minor injuries, prosecutors said.
"A witness statement issued by a driver who was behind the errant driver confirmed that the he crossed a red light," Mr Bu Faroosha said.
That driver was detained at al Muraggabat police station and will face charges of causing an accidental death and property damage.
"So far this year, we have registered 63 deaths on the road in comparison to 86 in the same period last year," Mr Bu Faroosha said. "Of all these deaths, 10 have been due to crossing a red light."
