DUBAI // A police officer stole confiscated US dollars from an evidence locker and replaced them with fake money, a court heard this morning.
The 38-year-old policeman AF, a Bahraini, is charged with embezzlement in the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance.

About $3,400 was being stored in the Al Rafaa station as evidence in a theft case, records show. But on May 31, 2010, the moneywas found to have been replaced with fake notes.
Investigators found AF's fingerprints on the dollars. Further investigations found that the fake money was related to a police complaint filed in 2007.
AF denied the charge. The next hearing was scheduled for August 28.
