ABU DHABI // Four men who ran a brothel tried to deliver a prostitute's baby, but the woman died during birth so they threw her child to the pavement in an effort to kill it, the Criminal Court heard.

The men, all from Asia, have been charged with attempted murder and endangering the baby's life.

A female Indian doctor has also been charged, accused of not doing enough to save the mother's life. The doctor has been released on bail and was granted permission to fly to India to visit her sick husband. However, she told the court yesterday that her passport was still held by prosecutors in Ajman.

"We have already approved your request, and from the other side there is nothing more that can be done," the judge told her.

The case was adjourned.
