DUBAI // A man who stole a bus, forged its ownership certificate and sold it was sentenced this morning in absentia to a year in prison.
The 20-year-old Pakistani MS was convicted of theft at night, forging a copy of an official document and forging the stamp of the Roads and Transport Authority.

On October 5, 2010, he stole a 1996 white van worth Dh65,000 from his employer, which rents them.
MM, a 50-year-old bus driver from the company, told prosecutors that the manager of the company had purchased the bus about two months before it was stolen.
He said the bus was parked in a sandy patch near the cemetery in Al Muhaisana 2 area, and he saw it on the night of October 4. But the next day, a colleague told him the bus was missing.
Ten days later, a company employee spotted the bus in a spare parts shop in Sharjah's Industrial Area 10, and police were notified.
