DUBAI // A man who kidnapped a woman before raping her on the back seat of his car has had his life sentence reduced to three years by the Appeals Court.

MS, 31, an Emirati, kidnapped the Iranian woman from the Dragon Mart car park on August 2 last year before raping her twice.

He lured the woman there by promising to find her a job after the pair met on an internet chatroom.

"He said he could help me get a post at Dubai Customs as his brother was a manager there and asked me to hand him my CV and passport copy," recalled the woman.

She said he insisted on receiving the documents in person so they met at the car park at about 8pm and she got into his car.

At first the man was "really polite" and offered to help the woman financially. She accepted, insisting that she would repay him. But soon afterwards he drove to a side road and attacked her, dragging her to the back seat where he raped her.

He then took her back to the Dragon Mart car park and abandoned her. She hailed a taxi and reported him to police.

"I didn't rape her and did not drive her anywhere. We talked, then left," the man claimed at his original trial.
