DUBAI // A Chinese woman was sentenced to six months in prison and fined Dh1,000 for working in prostitution and consuming liquor, a Dubai court ruled this morning.
When she appeared in court in October, the 30-year-old LH cried and denied the charges, saying she had been kidnapped by the two other suspects involved in the case.
AA, 32, and AM, 34, both Pakistani, were found guilty by the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance this morning and sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by deportation.
She said they requested Dh100,000 in ransom for her release but later settled for Dh50,000. She said in records that a Chinese woman assisting the two men who kidnapped her made her call a friend in China and ask for the money.
The men were charged with kidnapping her, unlawfully detaining her in a flat, and stealing the Dh50,000 ransom money, which she had received in a wire transfer from China. AA and AM pleaded not guilty when they appeared in court with LH last year.
According to records, the Pakistani men took LH from a hotel in Deira, where she had a few drinks and agreed to have sex with AM for Dh200.
They put her in a car, according to prosecution records, and stopped it in a dark area. There they tied her hands, blindfolded her and assaulted her, prosecutors said.
AM. and AA were also charged with stealing the woman’s two mobile phones.
LH told prosecutors she called the police after they released her.

One in nine do not have enough to eat
Created in 1961, the World Food Programme is pledged to fight hunger worldwide as well as providing emergency food assistance in a crisis.
