DUBAI // A contracting company manager lured a woman into his office for a job interview and raped her, a court has heard.
HA, a 44-year-old Iraqi, advertised for a secretary in an Arabic daily. EM, 30, responded, and they agreed to meet at his studio apartment on the afternoon of January 8.
The woman, who was visiting the country and seeking a full time job to gain residency, arrived at around 1.30pm, she told prosecutors.
As she entered, he locked the door behind her. After asking about her qualifications, he became flirtacious. Feeling uncomfortable, EM asked to leave, but as she walked to the door HA pulled her back. He threw her on her back on his desk and raped her.
The woman told prosecutors she screamed and fought as hard as she could. After the alleged attack, she took a bus back to the apartment where she was staying with a number of girls. A roommate advised her report him.
HA was arrested the next day. Arresting officers said he initially gave a false name.
A forensic report confirmed the rape and found traces of DNA on the woman's clothes matching HA's.
He failed to appear before the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance this morning to enter a plea. No date has been set for a further hearing.
