Government officers accused of issuing fake visas

DUBAI // Two government officers have denied issuing fake residency papers to four expatriates.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance heard today that AM, 24, and AA, 38, Emirati employees of the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department, forged four visit visas and then used these to issue residency permits.

Prosecutors said that in doing so they cleared the fines faced by four expatriates. Of the four expatriates, two face charges of criminal complicity. JD, from Uzbekistan, 47, denied the charge while his compatriot TS, 33, was still at large.

No motive for the officers' alleged crime was provided.

The next hearing will be on April 1.
