Five jailed for consensual sex

Women filed rape charges after men refused to pay them for sex, prosecutors say.

DUBAI // Three men were this morning given two months in prison each, followed by deportation, for drinking alcohol and having consensual sex with two women who had claimed the men raped them.

The Dubai Court of Misdemeanours dismissed charges of rape against PK, 24, unemployed, JK, 26, a concrete frame contractor, both British, and AP, 28, a South African. The women, RN and AM, from Ethiopia, were sentenced in absentia to two months in jail followed by deportation for the same charges.

The incident was reported on June 12, 2010, by the two women.

According to records, PK, JK, and AP met RN and AM in a hotel on Shaikh Zayed Road before they all headed to the men’s apartment.

Prosecutors said that they had sex with the women, but refused to pay them.

When RN and AM refused to leave without their money, PK chased them out of the apartment with a kitchen knife, threatening to kill them, records said.

A surveillance camera caught him running after the women, FL, an administrator at the apartment tower, told prosecutors.

FL added that the reception desk called him and told him two women had come to the desk crying and repeating that they had been raped by tower residents, records said.

“They seemed scared and were almost naked,” he told prosecutors.

He said they called the police, who came came and questioned the women.

RN told police the defendants had threatened to kill them, forced them to take off their clothes, then raped them. She added that they stole Dh5,000 from her bag.

The men said in records that they had sex with them with their consent.
