DUBAI // A 25-year-old woman used the Internet to solicit customers as a prostitute, a court heard this morning.
Prosecutors told the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance that AT, an Emirati, had sex with men in return for money. She denied the charges.
Corporal AS, 29, testified that police were tipped off that AT was practicing prostitution, after which the department traced the information and got AT's mobile number.
He said a police source working undercover contacted AT and arranged to meet with her at 11pm on May 11 in the Gloria Hotel in Media City.
AT arrived and met with the police source, records show. She took Dh3,000 from him, after which she took off her clothes and lay on the bed. Next door, a police team received a signal from the source and raided the room, arresting AT.
According to prosecution records, AT confessed to working as a prostitute, but said she only done it three times before meeting with the police source.
Prosecutors said AT confessed that she started offering herself to men using the Internet, and that she charged customers between Dh1,500 and Dh3,000.
A verdict is expected on August 21.
