A disgruntled worker who threatened to set himself on fire and burn down the offices of his employer in a row over unpaid wages was jailed for six months.

The construction company manager stormed into the accountant's office in Al Rafaa, Dubai, armed with a bottle of petrol, on September 9.

The Bangladeshi man vowed to set the building and himself ablaze if he did not receive the money he claimed he was owed, Dubai Criminal Court heard.

Dubai Police were alerted and the 27-year-old was arrested.

"We saw him with the fuel bottle at the accountant's office. I spoke with him to calm him down," a police officer told the court.

“He told me he wanted his money because they hadn’t paid him.

“He wasn’t co-operating and when he felt us approaching, he looked at the fuel bottle and told us he would set himself on fire.”

The man was charged with issuing threats, which he admitted in court.

He will be deported after serving his sentence.
