DUBAI // A final verdict in the case of the 8-year-old girl Wadeema who was tortured to death will be issued on October 21.

The Cassation Court's verdict will be the last step in the case against Wadeema's father and his girlfriend.

Both are currently facing life in prison, but the public prosecution is seeking the death penalty.

The father, HS, 29, an Emirati, was sentenced to death by the Criminal Court, but this was then commuted to life in prison by the Appeals Court.

The girlfriend AA, 27, also Emirati, was sentenced to life in prison by the Criminal Court and this was upheld by the Appeals Court.

They were convicted of torturing the man's two daughters, Wadeema and Mira, as well as killing Wadeema and hiding her body. They deprived the girls of food and care and locked them up at the father's rented apartment in the International City.

They also burnt the girls, poured boiling water on them and beat them with sticks and electric wires. Wadeema died in May last year and the couple buried her in the desert in Sharjah.
