DUBAI // A forensic medicine employee stole cash and property from two bodies brought to the morgue, a court heard this morning.
The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance was told that EA, 38, a police officer from the Comoros Islands who worked at the Dubai Police Forensics Medicine Department, stole from two men identified in records as LS and MA.
He denied the charges in both cases.
The Ajman resident was responsible for receiving corpses at the Dubai Police's morgue as well as delivering the deceased's belongings to their families.
On July 7, prosecutors said, EA stole Dh4,035 cash from LS's wallet, two gold rings, a wristwatch and a silver bracelet. On the same day, records show, he also stole about Dh2,000 MA's body.
SA, a Dubai police captain, testified that EA denied the accusations when first interrogated but soon confessed.
EA's supervisor, ASh, 29, Emirati, said he received a complaint from a police officer working in the same section with the defendant that LS's belongings were found to be missing when the body was handed over to the Indian consulate.
The next hearing will be on November 17.
