ABU DHABI // Seventy-four car workshops in Musaffah industrial area have been found to be offering paint jobs and repair services without a permit, police have said.

Abu Dhabi Police said the garages were caught in a crackdown in the first seven months of this year.

“Cases have been opened against those who were caught and they have been referred to prosecution for legal measures to be taken against them,” Col Mohammed Dahi, head of the traffic investigation section at Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Directorate, told The National’s Arabic sister paper, Al Ittihad, yesterday.

Col Dahi warned that garage owners without a permit from Abu Dhabi traffic police or Saeed, the company that handles the registration of minor accidents, that they will be held accountable.

The months-long crackdown on repair workshops in Abu Dhabi by traffic authorities have been to prevent drivers who flee the scene of an accident from fixing their vehicles and getting away with their offence, Col Dahi said.

“We are continuously watching and our investigators are closely monitoring the activities at workshops in all industrial areas in Abu Dhabi,” he added.
