About 1,200 counterfeit brooches and medals celebrating National Day have been confiscated by the Abu Dhabi Municipality in collaboration with police.
Khaleefa Al Rumaithi, director of public health, said the items bore the slogan of the Spirit of the Union, with pictures of the rulers of the seven emirates.
The surprise inspection covered markets in Abu Dhabi, Baniyas and Shahama.
The municipality warned shopkeepers it would take strict measures against offenders. Mr Al Rumaithi called on residents to use only official flags and approved slogans.
