Cooler weather was expected to persist in the UAE on Wednesday with forecasts of a chance of light rain and fresh to strong winds, particularly in the west.

Temperatures dropped as low as 2.6ºC on Tuesday – the lowest in the country, recorded at Jais Mountain at 5.45am, the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology said. The highest temperature, at 23.9ºC, was recorded above Fujairah airport at 1pm.

Rough seas are expected in both the Arabian Gulf and Sea of Oman, with humidity increasing at night and in the early morning and a chance of mist or fog developing in internal areas.

Northwesterly winds could reach speeds of 18 to 35 kilometres per hour over land and from 40 to 50km per hour over the sea, forecasters say.

Abu Dhabi is expected to have temperatures ranging from 19ºC to 24ºC, with slightly warmer weather in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. Highs of 25ºC are expected in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain, and 26ºC in Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.
