A contracting company has been ordered to pay Dh75,000 to a worker who had three fingers severed by a falling manhole cover.
His employer failed to implement adequate safety procedures and was contractually obliged to pay for work injuries, ruled Abu Dhabi Civil Appeals Court.
Its ruling increased the amount of compensation - the First Instance Civil Court had granted him Dh50,000, but he appealed, arguing this did not take into account the psychological damage he had suffered.
His company had claimed they were not required to pay for work injuries.
