DUBAI // A construction worker denied being the organiser of a gambling game at Dubai Criminal Court on Thursday, saying he was merely taking part.

A police patrol spotted a big crowd of men gathered around a table in Al Qusais and checked it out.

They found Bangladeshi worker AA, 42, using dice and a bucket, though Yemeni policeman AQ, 40, did not explain the nature of the game.

“I didn’t organise any game — I saw a number of men playing and I joined them but I don’t even know who plans these games,” said AA.

Prosecutors said he was arrested on December 27 last year.

The police officer said: “I surprised them when I showed up and I saw him organising the game and arrested him on the spot.”

The next hearing will be on March 27.
