DUBAI// The wife of an experienced Algerian diver who went missing 32km off Dubai says the coast guard is searching for him after he disappeared in the waters on Wednesday afternoon.
Rana Ghaleb said her husband Adel Ait-Ghezala had gone free diving with two other friends, equipped with only a wetsuit, flippers, goggles and a specialised watch. The group was spearfishing.
Ghaleb, who was on the boat during their dive, says her 35 year-old husband never emerged from the water.
Ait-Ghezala, a PhD student at the American University in Washington DC, was visiting Dubai with his wife from their home in the US.
A family friend said several boats, divers and a helicopter were involved in the search operation on Thursday.
