DUBAI // A cleaner stole a wallet containing Dh20,000 from a saleswoman’s desk, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

GZ, from China, told prosecutors that she left the wallet in her office on April 6 this year and only noticed it was missing when she tried to pay for petrol.

“I left my office at 6pm and stopped at a gas station to fill up my car before I went home. When I wanted to pay, I realised I had forgotten my wallet,” said the 27-year-old.

She searched for her wallet the next day but couldn’t find it, so she reported the matter to police.

CCTV footage from the office showed Sri Lankan cleaner FK, 35, stealing the wallet.

FK pleaded guilty to a charge of theft. A ruling is expected on June 10.
