Chinese PM to visit for future energy summit

ABU DHABI // The Chinese prime minister Wen Jiabao will address the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi next month in the first visit by one of China's leaders in more than 20 years.

"Abu Dhabi is paving the way for our involvement in both the region's emerging renewable energy industry and the industry globally," the Chinese ambassador Goa Yusheng said yesterday.

Heavy Chinese investment is driving down the price of solar panels and helping Gulf countries to introduce the technology into their energy mix. For the second successive year, Chinese companies will be the largest contingent at WFES.

"China has emerged as a renewable energy super power, redefining the global industry by increasing both the supply and demand for new energy sources," Dr Sultan Al Jaber, chief executive of the renewable energy company Masdar, said yesterday.
