Child dies in Abu Dhabi apartment blaze

A child died and two other people were injured when a fire broke out in an apartment block in Abu Dhabi.

Emergency services were called to the blaze on Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Street, but were unable to save the Asian girl.

Two apartments were badly damaged in the fire. Abu Dhabi Police reported the incident on its official Twitter account on Wednesday.

Brig Mohammed Al Ketbi, director general of Abu Dhabi Civil Defence, said an investigation into the cause of the blaze was under way. He urged the public to ensure they have fire extinguishers at home.
