DUBAI // A British company chief executive has lost an appeal against a three-month sentence he was handed for threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend and for assaulting her pilot boyfriend.

On July 9, Dubai Criminal Court sentenced J H to three months in jail after he had denied the charges.

He had threatened to kill his ex, N M, 45, and argued with her boyfriend Y B, 35, both of whom are British, before he physically assaulted the boyfriend.

The 45-year-old defendant was following N M’s movements and, on the day of the incident on February 2, the woman went to the pilot’s apartment to have lunch.

“I sent Y B a message to open the building’s main door and as I walked towards the lift, I saw J H behind me. He screamed at me, saying he would kill me if he saw me with another person,” said N M.

When she was late, the pilot became worried and left his apartment to check on her.

“I was waiting for the lift and, when it arrived, I saw N M standing in the corner while J H was screaming at her,” said the pilot.

The company boss told the pilot not to interfere before he left.

Later, the couple went out for lunch but returned to the apartment to get N M’s jacket and saw J H was still there.

“‘This is who you left me for? I will kill you and kill him,’ he told me,” said the woman.

The pilot told prosecutors that J H slapped him but he did not file a police complaint.

“She told me J H was her ex-boyfriend and that he was following her around,” added the pilot.

Dubai Court of Appeal on Wednesday upheld his sentence.
