DUBAI // Firefighters rescued a cat that was stuck behind the storefront sign of the Dubai Islamic Bank building in Tecom on Friday night.

Mohamed Sharafaddin, 11, a student at the Dubai National School and his friend Yousef Nidal, 12, called the Civil Defense department when they heard the wails of the distressed cat.

“We heard the painful miaow of the cat coming from somewhere in the front. We followed the sound to the car park where we we saw the banner and figured out that she was stuck in there,” said Mohammed.

The firefighters climbed ladders to retrieve the cat, which ran off after its rescue.

They said the cat was a stray and did not have an owner.

The rescue caused traffic congestion in the Tecom area after fire engines blocked the road opposite the building.
