DUBAI // Police rescued a camel that was stuck in a water-logged hole in Al Lisaili.

Lt Col Ahmed Burqibah, deputy director of the Search and Rescue Department, said Dubai Police’s Control and Command Centre received a call about the animal on Tuesday night.

“A rescue unit was dispatched to the area, where it was clear that the camel accidentally fell in the hole full of water,” he said. “The camel was submerged except for its head and neck.”

Lt Col Burqibah said it was at first challenging to rescue the animal because the hole was too small for a person.

“We used hydraulic equipment to make the hole, surrounded by cement, big enough for a rescuer to enter,” he said, adding: “We were very careful, making sure that nothing fell on the camel.”

In collaboration with Dubai Municipality, a lorry was brought to the scene to pump out the water after which the rescue unit tied a rope round the camel and pulled it to safety.

The camel was not injured.
