Anyone who has imagined what life on Mars might entail can now invite the world to share in their thoughts, after the UAE Space Agency launched its Planet Mars competition on Wednesday.
Taking place in conjunction with UAE Innovation Week, all UAE residents are invited to submit their designs for virtual homes which could accommodate the future population of Mars.
Each home should be designed with two occupants in mind, and take up an area of 500 square metres or more.
The homes must be built using materials native to the planet, or from recycling the spacecraft that transported the new inhabitants there.
A jury set up by the agency will choose the winning design, which will then be built and exhibited during an awards ceremony in March.
Dr Mohammed Al Ahbabi, the space agency’s director general, said the competition encouraged people to research the climactic conditions of the red planet and use their imagination to develop solutions to enable life on the Red Planet.
Details of how people can participate will be available on a website soon.
