RAS AL KHAIMAH // A five-year-old Arab boy was injured after falling from a window at his second-floor apartment.

His 35-year-old father and mother, 32, took him by car to the hospital while a witness at the building called police that he saw a child lying on the ground, said Lieutenant Colonel Walid Mohammed Juma Al Nuaimi, director of the Criminal Investigation Branch at Al Mamourah police station, RAK.

The boy has fractures in various parts of his body and initial investigations suggest that he was home alone when he fell, Lt Col Al Nuaimi added.

His parents went out to drop the mother at work while the boy slept, police said. During that time, the boy woke up, did not find anyone at the house, so he went to the window, where he fell out. At that moment, a neighbour saw him lying on the ground and called police. Meanwhile, the father came home to find his boy lying on the ground. He took him in his car to Saqr Hospital, where he remains.

Police have forwarded the case to prosecutors.

“Parents, especially the mother, are responsible for their children legally and morally. They are guardians and responsible for their safety. They should not neglect or leave them alone,” he said.

Mr Al Nuaimi urged parents to monitor their children and not to leave them alone at home, as being left unattended could lead to serious injury or even death.
