Boy, 14, dies after motorcycle crash

A 14-year-old motorcyclist died of injuries he suffered in a crash last week, officials say.

AS, an Emirati, had been receiving treatment at Al Qassimi Hospital since Wednesday evening following his collision with a car on Airport Road.

"The boy arrived here in a critical condition with several injuries on different parts of his body, from face to brain, and was bleeding profusely," said Dr Mohamed Al Ulama, the deputy director of the hospital's neurosurgery department.

"He was transferred to intensive care but his condition continued to worsen.

"His condition did not allow a surgical operation, so we focused on giving him drugs to stabilise him, but unfortunately he didn't make it."

A police spokesman said AS had turned on to the road without checking for traffic. Police were still investigating but the spokesman urged parents not to allow underage children to drive a car or ride a motorcycle.

"The country is at present mourning on a daily basis young ones being wasted on the roads because of traffic rules' violations," he said.

On Monday morning a 60-year-old Sudanese man died when he was hit by a car in the Sharjah Industrial Areas. The man had been crossing the road when he was struck, officials said.
