DUBAI // A man who posed as a police officer to kidnap and rob a labourer has had his three-year jail sentence upheld by the Appeals Court.

AK, 24, from Pakistan, approached a Bangladeshi electrician in Al Quoz and, introducing himself as a CID officer, told him to get in his car.

When the electrician complied, the bogus policeman assaulted him and stole Dh10,800 from his wallet.

The kidnapper then stopped the car in an area of desert and threw the electrician out.

Police said the kidnapper had been involved in other similar robberies and that he usually worked with an accomplice.

At his original trial at the Criminal Court, the man denied charges of impersonation, kidnap and robbery, but was found guilty.

The Appeals Court also upheld his deportation order.
