DUBAI // A 30-year-old fisherman was killed and two others are having treatment for major burns in Ras Al Khaimah’s Saqr Hospital after their boat exploded at Al Rams jetty on Tuesday evening.
There were seven men all from Tamil Nadu state in southern India on board when the engine caught fire and exploded while the deceased man, Vanniyan, was trying to start it. Four men jumped into the water when the fire began and received only minor injuries.
“We had returned from fishing and were taking out the boat again when the explosion happened,” said Susai Raj, who is in hospital with burns to his legs and hands.
Tulasi Raman, the other burns victim, has more severe injuries.
