A blacksmith who stabbed a man to death and seriously injured another after claiming they groped him has been sentenced to life in prison.
The 21-year-old grabbed a knife from his room after one of the two Indian victims allegedly touched his bottom on the stairway of an accommodation block in Al Quoz, Dubai.
He returned and launched and stabbed both men, with one dying as a result of his injuries and the other left bleeding heavily.
The incident took place on May 9.
The Pakistani man was heard shouting that he killed a man and 'had no problem with it', according to prosecutors.
A 51-year-old Egyptian security guard alerted police, who arrived soon after along with an ambulance that took the injured man to hospital.
The accused was found a few hours hiding near a mosque.
During police questioning, he admitted carrying out the attacks and said he had thrown the murder weapon under a truck.
Police located the knife, which was found to have the killers' fingerprints on it.
“I had never seen him in my life and the man he killed had just returned from holiday one day before the murder,” said the 25-year-old victim who survived the stabbing.
All three men were found to be under the influence of alcohol at the time.
The blacksmith was charged with premeditated murder and attempted murder of the other, as well as consuming alcohol without a license.
The surviving victim was referred to the court of misdemeanors on a charge of consuming alcohol without a license.
The defendant denied all charges at Dubai Criminal Court but was sentenced to life in prison, to be followed by deportation.
He has the right to appeal the sentence.
