BlackBerry users faced a second day of disruption yesterday following a severe technical error that left thousands of customers unable to send messages.
Users in the Middle East region reported renewed problems with services such as email and the popular BlackBerry Messenger service.
BlackBerry's service went down on Monday across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, reportedly due to a fault at a UK-based data centre operated by Research In Motion (RIM), which makes the smartphone.
RIM claimed early yesterday that the problem had been resolved, but warned that messaging and internet services could face problems.
However, by late afternoon BlackBerry users in the UAE were again reporting severe problems. RIM did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Telecoms operators acknowledged the problem.
"RIM problems are affecting some BlackBerry customers again today," Etisalat said via Twitter.
The Bahraini operator Batelco also confirmed "service difficulties with BlackBerry", in the second day of problems.
The Saudi Arabian telecoms operator Mobily said it was offering customers three days' free use of the BlackBerry service due to the downtime.
