RAS AL KHAIMAH// Bikers from around the emirates have gathered on Friday to celebrate the Flag Day by taking it to the top of the country’s highest mountain.

The 100-strong parade, which took riders from RAK to Jebel Jais in the Hajjar Mountains, was to celebrate unity under the nation’s flag, said Emirati Mohamed Al Belooshi from RAK, the ride’s organiser.

“As it is Flag Day, we liked to celebrate the special occasion and gather Emiratis and expats from across the country under our flag,” the 39-year-old said.

Christina GuGu, a German civil engineer and architect who has lived in the UAE for 10 years, said that she joined the group to celebrate and to show her devotion for her adopted home.

“I like the UAE and the brotherhood, and I am proud to have an opportunity to live and work here,” the 40-year-old said.

“When I heard there was a Flag Day parade, I got excited and joined them to raise the UAE flag on the highest summit in the country. I love to join in the UAE’s national events.”

Hussam Qadan, a marine captain from Jordan, said that celebrating the Flag Day was essential as he was born in the UAE.

“I have been in the UAE since I was born, and it is my country. I came with the group to raise the unified flag high and to show my love and patriotism for the country that has given me everything,” the 40-year-old said.
