AL AIN // The Baqala grocery shop standardisation programme is to be introduced in Al Ain.
The Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority said the scheme, which will be applied to the small grocery shops in the city, will preserve the appearance of the area and provide better services to consumers.
Baqala, which was introduced in the capital in 2013, requires all shops to have improved refrigeration, shelving and decor.
Food authority spokesman Thamer Al Qasemi said that implementing the project in Al Ain would ensure the safety of customers, reported state news agency Wam.
There are about 900 grocery businesses in Al Ain licensed with the Department of Economic Development.
