ABU DHABI // A group of Emirati writers will explore the challenges they face in a changing cultural landscape in this year's Al Ain Reads programme.
The fair, in its sixth year, will feature panel discussions, lectures, a poetry evening and book-signing events at Al Ain Convention Centre from Monday to November 2.
More than 60 exhibitors are expected to take part in the show this year, displaying more than 55,000 Arabic and English literary and scientific titles.
The fair is organised by the National Library division of the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi).
“TCA Abu Dhabi has always considered Emirati intellectuals and creative writers as partners in the process of cultural development,” said Juma Al Qubaisi, executive director of the National Library.
“By providing these writers with a platform to meet the public and present their ideas and visions, we can promote dialogue and engagement with society while introducing new concepts and book titles to a new audience.
“Importantly, we are also able to provide visitors the opportunity to meet their favourite writers face-to-face and discuss their literary productions.”
The programme will offer perspectives from three generations of Emirati writers. They include Amal Al Duwailah, a writer and filmmaker; Sultan Al Amimi, a researcher and storyteller; Ali Al Himyari, a storyteller and novelist; Hareb Al Dhahiri, a storyteller; Mohammed Hassan, a media personality and screenwriter; Saeed Al Badi, a novelist and journalist; and Yasser Al Neyadi, a film director and actor.
The free exhibition will run from Saturdays to Thursdays, from 9am to 2pm and from 5pm to 10pm, and on Fridays from 5pm to 10pm.
