DUBAI // An Indonesian was one of three maids jailed for a year on Sunday by Dubai Court of Misdemeanours for giving birth outside of wedlock.
The woman, Y T, 35, was arrested when she gave birth to the child in the bathroom of her sponsor’s house last month.
“It was 7.30am when the nanny came telling me that Y T was bleeding,” said her sponsor, Emirati A A.
“My wife and I went to find that she had given birth, but we were stunned because she is married and her husband is back in her country.”
Y T was taken to hospital, where she and her baby boy were found to be in good health.
She was then charged with having consensual sex outside wedlock.
She told prosecutors that she had an affair with her sponsor’s Bangladeshi driver, M K, who ran away when he found out she was pregnant.
Y T was sentenced to one year in the woman’s prison, where she will be able to keep her child with her.
She will be deported after completing her jail term.
