Abu Dhabi Police release horror crash footage to warn of danger of jumping red lights

Police have released shocking footage of road accidents caused by motorists failing to stop for traffic signals

Abu Dhabi Police have issued a safety warning over the dangers of flouting traffic laws after releasing shocking footage of road crashes caused by impatient drivers jumping red lights.

The thought-provoking clip, posted on the force's social media accounts as part of the 'Be Road Safe' campaign, show the devastating results of drivers failing to stop when the lights turn red.

In one disturbing incident, a lorry is turned on its side by a high-speed collision after the driver turns left, ignoring a red light.

Abu Dhabi Police released the footage to warn motorists of the dangers of not sticking to traffic laws.

Police said the violation can have fatal consequences - and have vowed to hit motorists hard in the pocket to make them think twice.

“The penalty for light vehicles jumping the red signal is Dh1.000 along with 12 black points, and the vehicle will be impounded for 30 days,” said the police.

Heavy vehicles face a Dh3,000 fine for the same violation, and a one-year suspension of their driving licence.
