ABU DHABI // A man accused of consuming drugs insisted that his friend and co-accused had no knowledge of taking the drugs, the Criminal Court has heard.

MS and MA, both Emiratis, are accused of consuming hashish.

MS confessed to his charge and before the judge questioned MA, he said: “The second defendant used my things. He had nothing to do with this.”

MA agreed that he was unaware that he had consumed hashish.

They explained that he stayed with MS in a hotel room for three days and when MS was out of the room he drank some of his juice.

“I always put the drugs in my juice,” explained MS.

“And he did not know that I take drugs. I also put some in my medwakh and smoked next to him, so maybe it caught on him as well,” he added.

“Even after prosecutors told us we tested positive, he was shocked and asked how is that possible, so I asked him if he drank from my juice and he said he did.”

MA argued that he had no business doing drugs: “I have a job and I am completing my studies and I provide financially for the house.”

At the end of the hearing, MA requested his acquittal and MS asked to be admitted to rehab.

The court said it will announce its decision in due course.
