Abu Dhabi City Municipality has urged community members to follow guidelines when setting up Ramadan tents.
The municipality called on the public to abide by security stipulations and health standards to ensure safety throughout the holy month.
Residents are expected to apply for permits before erecting tents and Ramadan majlis, which are a feature of the Emirati community during the holy month.
Those wishing to erect tents have to submit applications to Abu Dhabi City Municipality seeking a temporary permit according to the model approved by the authority. The issuing of such permits is provided by the municipality as a complimentary service with no fees involved.
The application for installing a Ramadan tent must include all supporting documents required along with an undertaking from the applicant to comply with the stipulations set by the municipality.
The municipality stated that after the application process, a field inspection visit will be made to the site to ensure that it conforms to requirements.
The tent must not cause damage to utility lines, pavements or streets, nor should tents block streets, routes or entry points to buildings, car parks or emergency exits.
Tents must not affect the mobility of pedestrians; and must not be erected on private properties of a third party.
Breaching such conditions or erecting the tent without a prior permit renders offenders liable to prosecution. The relevant law prohibits the erection of temporary installations without a permit and can result in a fine of Dh10,000.
