ABU DHABI // A mobile courtroom housed in a double-decker bus has been launched in Abu Dhabi as part of efforts to improve judicial services in the emirate.

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department said that the vehicle is fully equipped to accommodate trials, with room on board for the judges, prosecutors, clerks.

While on its top floor, the bus will house an administrative office upstairs where staff will answer public inquiries.

It will serve as an official court in cases regarding people who cannot make the main courtroom in the city, such as for people in labour camps or for those with special needs.

Before then, the bus will travel across the emirate of Abu Dhabi to visit schools, universities and residential areas to help raise awareness on judicial procedures throughout Abu Dhabi.

Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, inaugurated the courtroom in a ceremony at the Presidential Palace.

“The strategy of Abu Dhabi Judicial Department lays stress on the development of judicial and legal services through innovative ways that save the time and efforts of customers and on taking its services to all members of the public anytime, anywhere,” he said.

The concept is part of an initiative by Sheikh Mansour, to encourage government entities to upgrade and develop their services.
