Medical training to detect the early symptoms of deafness and linguistic-evaluation tests for nursery pupils are among the activities planned in the Emirates during International Deaf Week. The 34th deaf week, which will run from April 20 to 27 under the slogan "Towards achieving human security for the deaf", is organised locally by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Dar Zayed, a home for orphans.

It will focus on policies that maintain economic, domestic, cultural and social security for the deaf, and involve students, teachers, parents and medical personnel. Training for ear, nose and throat specialists will be held at the Khalifa bin Zayed Hospital in Ajman. Public relations officials will be given training in sign language and on how to deal with the handicapped. Deaf students will participate in beach cleaning in co-operation with Emirates Environmental Group, take a field trip to Ras al Khaimah beach and visit deaf employees at government departments.
