DUBAI // Urging the public to avoid fake luxury goods will be at the core of a new campaign launched by the Department of Economic Development and Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy.
“We will work hand in hand with the government and private sectors, drawing on federal and international laws against counterfeiting ,” said Mohammed Ali Lootah, chief executive of the Commercial Compliance and Consumer Protection sector at the department.
Work will begin to strengthen compliance and intellectual property protection laws to tackle commercial fraud and protect trademark owners.
“We will organise training programmes for our field staff tasked with ensuring commercial control and IP protection,” Mr Lootah said.
“Such partnerships with brand owners and joint training programmes improve the performance of our field staff and help them detect violations easily.”
Mr Lootah said the campaign was in line with Dubai’s economic strategy of developing public-private partnerships.
A competitive intellectual property protection environment would drive commercial traffic to Dubai and enhance the UAE’s global ranking as a competitive business destination, he said.
