DUBAI // The marine rescue at Dubai Police’s general department of transport registered 90 marine accidents of which 37 cases of drowning resulting in 58 different injuries over the first eight months of 2015.
The month of May witnessed the biggest share of these accidents with 17 drownings which resulted in 24 injuries.
Marine accidents and drownings are mainly due to victims flouting safety measures such as wearing life vests and protective helmets when driving jet skis and avoiding night swimming, said Major Ali Abdullah Al Qaseeb Al Naqbi, head of marine rescue at Dubai Police’s general department of transport. He added that strict laws should be implemented vis-à-vis those who refuse to comply with these measures.
