4th Class Baynunah warship is handed over to UAE Navy

Abu Dhabi Ship Building handed over a 4th Class Baynunah warship, Mazyed, to the UAE Navy in a ceremony attended by Maj Gen Ibrahim Al Musharrakh, Commander of the UAE Naval Forces, and other senior military officers.

Khalid Al Mazrouie, chief executive of Abu Dhabi Ship Building, said the Baynunah class is one of biggest warship-building projects in the region. He added that the corvette edition is used for surveillance, interception, Coast Guard patrol, helicopter operations and other security missions.

Maj Gen Al Musharrakh, said “highly-capable Mazyad will take part in defending our coasts and territorial waters”.

He added that clear vision and sound planning are the two pillars of development and growth in terms of armament and training. In the next stage, advanced naval units, infrastructure and special training centres will be put into service.

Mr Al Mazrouie said that the handover is an important step towards the company’s self-reliance in making defence equipment.

Abu Dhabi Ship Building now specialises in the construction, repair and refit of naval, military and commercial vessels.

Owned by Mubadala, the company is focusing on becoming a major ship builder and support contractor for all naval, military and commercial operators in the GCC.
